For parents already paying for help
The tutor is good. The grades aren't moving. Here's why.
When tutoring doesn't work, it's rarely the tutor. It's that the problem was never understanding. Work that's understood but not started, tracked or handed in is an execution problem, and it has a different fix.
The real diagnosis
When tutoring isn't working, the usual reason is a problem-tool mismatch: tutoring fixes understanding, but most falling grades are execution failures. Assignments understood yet unstarted, finished yet unsubmitted, tests known about too late to study for. An hour of content help each week can't reach any of those. Habit systems and daily accountability can.
01 · Run the checklist
Is it understanding, or execution?
If you've found yourself searching “tutoring not working” mid-semester, run these five checks. The evidence is already in the house:
- 1
Look at the zeros.
Missing-assignment zeros alongside decent test scores = execution. Low test scores with everything handed in = understanding (keep the tutor).
- 2
Ask what happens between sessions.
If the tutor's homework plan dies by Wednesday, the gap is follow-through, not content.
- 3
Count the subjects.
One subject down = likely content. Every subject leaking = the system, not the material.
- 4
Watch the start, not the finish.
Execution problems show up as the 9pm panic start; understanding problems show up mid-problem.
- 5
Check the backpack.
Crumpled completed work that never got handed in is the signature of an execution problem, and no amount of re-teaching touches it.
02 · What the fix looks like
Execution problems need reps, not explanations
Understanding can be taught in an hour. Follow-through is built like fitness: small daily reps with someone checking. That's the Coachbit model: a short check-in every day to plan, start and track the work, plus live 1-on-1 video sessions (1 to 5 a week, depending on your plan), with parents seeing progress weekly. The tutor (if you keep one) gets a student who arrives with the work attempted.
“My 16 year old son has tried several different life coach programs / Executive function coaches...nothing worked. This program is making a huge difference because it is every day for short periods of time. My son was barely passing last year and now has As & Bs.”
“I signed up for Coachbit having tried other strategies to get my kiddo organized and keep him motivated, to no avail. […] Coach Anthony has been fantastic with my son.”

03 · Coaching, tutoring, or therapy?
The honest triage
Coaching is not therapy and Coachbit doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. If school struggles come with persistent low mood, withdrawal, or worry that reaches beyond school, a licensed clinician is the right first step, and coaching can support the habits side alongside. FAQ
Questions parents ask
Why isn't tutoring helping my teen?
Most often because the bottleneck is execution, not understanding: assignments understood but unstarted, finished but unsubmitted. When tutoring isn't working (or the tutor isn't helping despite real skill), it's usually because tutoring re-teaches content; it can't reach planning, starting and follow-through, which is where those grades are leaking.
How do I know if my teen needs a coach instead of a tutor?
Check the zeros: missing-assignment zeros with decent test scores point to execution (coach); everything handed in but scored low points to understanding (tutor); both patterns together stack both.
Should I stop tutoring if it isn't working?
Not necessarily. If there's a genuine content gap, keep it, and fix the execution layer around it. Many families find the tutoring finally "works" once work is started early and arrives at sessions attempted.
What does Coachbit do differently from a tutor?
Coaches don't re-teach content. A short daily check-in builds the start-track-submit habit loop; live 1-on-1 sessions (up to 5 a week) plan the week; parents get weekly visibility. Ages 11–21.
How fast will we see a difference?
Missing-assignment counts usually move first (weeks); durable habits take months. One parent described six months of foundation-building before the payoff became obvious. Anyone promising instant transformation is selling something else.
